Dominic's Personal Application
My greatest contribution to this project in terms of content was the portion of the essay that discussed organization skills. I chose to write about this specific part of the project because it is something that I can easily relate to. I can relate to it because I can both understand it, and in my opinion, am pretty good at this specific set of skill. Organization skills are what a business relies on for workers to stay organized and focused on the task ahead through planning, task delegation, time optimization, and leadership. Organization skills are what set a truly successful company away from a more average company. Organization skills are what make a team successful in accomplishing various tasks. Accomplishing tasks consistently are what make a business successful.
I believe the aforementioned skills are things I used and executed while working on this project. I have always considered myself a leader to a certain extent, but I think this project exemplified some of my leadership skills and really brought that side out of me. As the deadline of this project neared its deadline, I was compelled to step into a role of leadership and do everything I could to get this project done both well and in a timely manner.
To accomplish the aforementioned task of getting the fourth digital media project done in a timely manner and get it done well, I started by making a To-Do list of everything that still needed to be taken care of to get the project submitted. I then distributed these tasks to myself and my teammates in a way that I saw best fit to accomplish this project. I set soft deadlines for myself and my teammates to allow everything to be compiled and turned in, and even offered to do the compilation and put everything together. I found that creating these deadlines helped my group stay on task.
I recognized the fact that everyone on the team had something different to offer, and had a unique skill set that could be optimized and used to successfully finish this project. I used my interpretation of my own skills and the skills of my teammates to distribute the To-Do list appropriately and in a way that I was confident would get everything done in time and done the right way. As it turned out, everything was completed and compiled by the early submission deadline, which was the deadline we sought to hit.
With my organizational skills I was in charge of creating the website for our group. I used spatial orientation and visualization when building our site. I feel that my spatial orientation skills helped make our site very easy to navigate and understand. The way I created the site was for the viewer to access all our main points of the project from the home page. I used visualization when putting the information on the site after my team mates emailed it all to me. One thing I focused on then, was to make sure the paragraphs were not too long and easy to find key points.
One organizational aspect I would have liked to incorporate more of was creating SMART Goals. I feel if we would have used SMART Goals, we could have had more time to put the website together. It would have created better communication earlier on and help all stay engaged throughout the entire process. Another organizational aspect I would have liked to incorporate would have been better communication. We primarily communicated via email, which was difficult at times. I think if we had used texting, all members would have responded quicker creating a more efficient working team.
Using all of these skills, helped make myself and my group much more efficient. When working as a group organization is key because with out it the group will miss important points and deadlines, and can look like a bunch of smaller projects put together instead of one group project. With bringing my organizational skills to our group, I helped tie up a lot of the loose ends and creating one project.
